Back Pain

“Matria helped me avoid losing time at work for expensive tests I really didn’t need.”

Many patients are not aware that costly tests such as MRIs and invasive treatment procedures are rarely necessary for isolated incidences of back pain. Matria Back Pain Management helps employees avoid unnecessary medical costs associated with acute episodes of back pain.

Through telephonic interactions with nurses and Matria’s back pain handbook, the program helps employees understand back pain and modify certain lifestyle behaviors that could help improve their condition. If a patient’s pain continues past six weeks, we assist them in finding a local Back Pain Center of Excellence and/or appropriate musculoskeletal specialist(s).

Proper use of strengthening and stretching exercises, coping skills and referrals to appropriate traditional or alternative specialists may include physical therapists, licensed musculoskeletal massage therapists, psychiatrists, chiropractors and orthopaedic surgeons.
